ARTIST IN RESIDENCE AT MIDLAND JUNCTION ARTS CENTRE (MJAC)

Antony Muia is a few weeks into a printmaking residency at MJAC and is busy making work for a solo exhibition to be held there, opening 6 May 2022, titled 'Upper Reach'.

Antony says, 'The works will reference the diverse flora and fauna found in Perth’s eastern suburbs and hills through experimentation with mark making qualities unique to the etching process. The prints explore the way we converse with and observe the natural landscape. The residency is used as a time to consider the history and traditions of the printmaking genre.'

Muia’s seminal works consider the West Australian landscape through the lenses of representational illustration and storytelling on paper.

Midland Junction Arts Centre (MJAC) is situated in the heart of Midland, 18km north-east of the Perth CBD. It is a vibrant visual and performing arts facility managed by Mundaring Arts Centre Inc. with the support of the City of Swan.

Developed during an artist residency at Midland Junction Arts Centre, this body of work is inspired by the unique flora and fauna found in Perth’s eastern suburbs and hills. Muia explores a synergy between figuration and the natural world and considers the history and traditions of the printmaking genre, including its strong ties to illustration and storytelling.
