Colour is beautiful but appearances can be deceptive. Through a series of colourful diptychs Barbara Bolt creates a dialogue between digital and water colour painting, posing the questions: what is the relationship between the virtual and the material, the mutable and the “real” and what does this mean for the 'auratic' quality of the digital?

Barbara Bolt is a Professorial Fellow at the Victorian College of the Arts. She is an artist and art theorist whose work engages in a dialogue between theory and practice, between light and matter and between digital and analogue painting seen through the lens of New Materialisms. Barbara has been a finalist in the Doug Moran Portrait Prize, the Portia Geach Memorial Award, The Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing and the Swan Hill Print and Drawing Prize. She has recently returned to Western Australia to pursue her passion for the unique light and colour of WA.
